John Cloud seems to be drowning in his contempt for people in general (“New York Fetish,” 8/1). And his identification of nightlife with joy is pathetically naive. Hence, the article comparing New York and Washington quickly became boring and unreadable. In New York he will be able to dance at any hour of the day or night, but I very much doubt he will be happy.
