I just finished reading John Cloud’s rambling diatribe about why New York is so much better than D.C. (“New York Fetish,” 8/1). The only refreshing thing about Mr. Cloud’s brain vomit is the ending salvo: “In 1950, the District’s population reached 802,000, its peak. Today, it’s about 545,000. And it’s about to fall by one more.” I have just one thing to say Mr. Cloud: Good riddance.
