Dave Mustaine is the current generation’s Ted Nugent, a right-leaning one-time hedonist who likes to use the moments between guitar solos to speak his political mind. You’ve seen him on MTV News, but Mustaine’s rage is mostly limited to Megadeth albums, the sometimes-great thrash-metal band he started after being dismissed from Metallica because he was an asshole, a waste-case, or both. Age doesn’t become most metalheads, as Megadeth so clearly demonstrates on its latest, Cryptic Writings. The use of sitars doesn’t count as progress for a band like this. It only means it’s getting too big, turning wussy, or both. With the Misfits at 7:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $25. (202) 393-0930. (Brett Anderson)
