THURSDAY

Though the surly waitress on What’s Happening!! let forth a constant stream of wisecracks, the classic example of that show’s humor was a gag directed at her. Raj: “I got a question about inflation.” Shirley: “Oh, yeah, what’s your question?” Raj: “How’d you get so inflated?” Two decades later, Shirley Hemphill has the last laugh. The actress/comedienne’s résumé boasts credits such as Hollywood Squares, The Alan Thicke Show, and The Love Boat, all marks of beloved-elder status in TV Land. Meanwhile, what have Roger, Dwayne, and Rerun been up to lately? Not much. But if they do show up to catch their old sparring partner’s comedy act, expect her to give as good as she got. At 8:30 p.m. tonight, 8:30 & 10:30 p.m. Friday & Saturday, and 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Improv, 1140 Connecticut Ave. NW. $15. (202) 296-7008. (Michael Schaffer)
