Dave McKenna states in his article on the rape allegations regarding the two D.C. United players (Cheap Seats, 9/5) that “most of the 18,123 fans…treated the alleged perpetrators as their favorite players.” He cites three incidents to back this up.

I can’t see how these incidents prove his assertion, as: 1.) Diaz Arce always gets the loudest ovation during introductions due both to his performances and the big El Salvadoran support, 2.) Diaz Arce always signs more than the other players, and he’s always “more accessible”—ask anyone, and 3.) Gori is often feted by chants of “Gori! Gori!” from fans; he has been singled out since last season by the supporters clubs because of his intensity.

I’ve been to all home games this year and I can truthfully say that I noticed no difference in the fan behavior toward those players during the K.C. game than in any other game this season. Maybe McKenna did, or maybe McKenna has not attended many games.
