Local teens Christina and Mariana Meyer are pretty cool for middle-schoolers. They turned the trauma of moving to a new town into a positive experience by writing an essay called “New Kid on the Block,” and offering advice for other girls in the same situation. If you don’t like change, Christina says, “don’t dwell on the bad points. That will make you more depressed.” Not bad for a teenager. Some people take years of therapy to figure such logic. The girls’ essay appears with 26 others in the sassy anthology Girls Know Best. And they do, you know. Other essays include advice on how to pass notes in class and instructions for homemade chocolate lip gloss. The sisters from Silver Spring read at 3 p.m. at Borders, 11301 Rockville Pike, Rockville.
