THURSDAY
On Heavy Soul, former Jam/Style Council frontman Paul Weller (with drummer Steve White and bassist Marko Nelson) leads us further into the Wildwood, where his now-signature fusion of soul and rock has taken root. Weller has honed his sound and made an album that’s raw, edgy, even angry (on “Brushed”), and generally grittier than his last, the mature Stanley Road. Soul finds Weller and Co. playing with a rare authority, and if the confidence that shaped Live Wood (a double live album) has grown, tonight’s live Soul will be a sweaty, solid gig. With Johnette Napolitano at 8 p.m. at the Lincoln Theatre, 1215 U St. NW. $19.50 (benefits the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund). (202) 328-6000. (John Dugan)
