Mississippi’s Fat Possum Records’ mixture of hill-country bluesmen and raw punk-rock spirit didn’t pay off until R.L. Burnside toured and recorded with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Now the relationship continues as the Explosion’s Judah Bauer has formed a sidegroup called 20 Miles, whose self-titled debut of abrasive roots noise features Bauer and his brother aided by Mississippians like T-Model Ford’s drummer Spam and Othar Turner’s Fife & Drum Band.
