SUNDAY
Like several of her better-known peers, Dar Williams is a righteous folkie caught between the allure of technology and her conviction that purity must be accessed organically. Instead of being hampered by overproduction, Williams deftly manages to flesh out her songs with sounds, creating soft-toned orchestrations that have almost as much to say as the stories on her latest CD, The End of Summer. Most of this will likely be stripped away tonight, however, which isn’t so bad since it leaves Williams to do what she does best: sing. With Richard Shindell at 7 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $18.50. (703) 549-7500. (Brett Anderson)
