The 5,6,7,8’s destroy all their songs in the best way. This leopard print skirt-wearing Tokyo trio attempts to play garage rock. Ronnie Fujiyama sings as if there’s coal lodged in her throat, while her band plays as if trapped in its own B-movie universe. The group’s self-titled Time Bomb release conjures visions of a ’60s girl group stuck in some beach flick. “I Walk Like Jayne Mansfield” is still the band’s calling card, but “I Don’t Need You No More” is downright scary, and “Highschool Witch” and “Teenage Cleopatra” evoke a surf hell complete with connect-the-dot guitar lines. With the Ubangis at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $5. (202) 667-7960. (Jason Cherkis)
