Exotic accessibity characterizes Hungarian folk quintet Muzsikás and Márta Sebestyén’s music. Their melodies have an almost Oriental flavor, and some of the faster dance rhythms sound unusual compared with American and Anglo-Celtic folk traditions. Their instrumental sound is based around a core of fiddle, viola, and upright bass, which creates a surprisingly knotty texture. Vocalist Sebestyén’s unique style (it at times recalls a British singer trying out Hebrew prayer chants) made an attention-grabbing addition to the English Patient soundtrack. At 7:30 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $17.50. (703) 549-7500. (Ken Roseman)
