As an old country boy, I was shocked to see that the price of hogs had risen to such heights (“Boss Hog,” 10/10). The article mentions “$3,000, slightly more than the cost of a single sow.” Later, the author mentions a weight of 250 pounds for an average pig ready for slaughter. That puts the pig at $12 a pound—jowls, trotters, and all. Maybe I’m cheap, but I just don’t pay that much for pork. On the other hand, if the author is right, I suggest D.C. turn the Woodies building and RFK Stadium into hog farms and request the esteemed senator from North Carolina to direct these efforts to restore financial well-being.
