In the ’90s alone, bell hooks has published 11 books. Hooks is, as she puts it in her second memoir, Wounds of Passion, “prolific,” but to what end? Hooks may be the queen of literary productivity, but her domain is impoverished; her books routinely treat logic and history as enemies of the state, and they reflect the short amount of time she puts into them. Wounds attempts to address the manic pace of publishing that she’s maintained. “Again and again women ask me how I can write so much,” says hooks. The real question is why does she write so much? Hooks reads at 6 p.m. at Vertigo Books, 1337 Connecticut Ave. NW. FREE. (202) 429-9272. (TC)
