There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
Distortion never worked for Ric Ocasek. Even his burliest rock moves with the Cars came off as well organized and kind of polite. His latest solo outing, Troublizing, is no different, really, save the slight elevation of emotional fervor provided by Billy Corgan, who helps at the mixing board, on guitar, and in marketing. Rock this stiff isn’t meant to emotejust to follow the formula that offers the listener an option to feel any way he wants, as long as it’s not much at all. And if Corgan plans to poke at his current obsessions 20 years down the road and still come off like a pro, he had best take some notes. With Love Nut at 7:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $10. (202) 393-0930. (BA)
