Jazz fans jonesin’ for the straight-ahead sounds formerly dealt by WDCU can get a fix from trumpeter Brian Lynch. On his new album, Spheres of Influence, the ex-Jazz Messenger plays his hard bop bright and brassy—just how radio programmers like it. Add a little funk and a fondness for Latin grooves (gathered from his longtime job with Eddie Palmieri), and Lynch would surely be in heavy rotation—if there were a rotation to be put in. Do your own Candy Shannon impression when Lynch is joined by George Garzone, the multifaceted saxophonist for the Fringe, and a local rhythm section at 8:30 & 10:30 p.m tonight and Saturday at the Willard Hotel’s Nest Lounge, 1401 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. $16.
