A friend of mine swears that the first time his wife ever noticed him was at an a cappella concert. Fourteen years later, they’re happy enough, but just imagine how much more exciting things would be if they had met at a Rockapella show. For five years, the quintet has been the house band for the PBS geography education show Where in the World Is Carmen San Diego?, singing songs about rivers, oceans, and cities near and far. With that kind of inspiration, my friend and his wife might today be living in Melbourne or Dusseldorf instead of Adams Morgan. Lucky for them, Rockapella’s repertoire suggests that the group’s upcoming show will feature music more suited to the world-weary than the world traveler. But try to tweak ’em by asking for a tune about, say, Mogadishu. At 7:30 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $15. (703) 549-7500. (Michael Schaffer)
