THURSDAY

At least we still have the Rosebuds. As venues for personal, independent, and downright strange films close by the minute, the Rosebud organization continues to champion local filmmakers. While its annual awards fest won’t be held until March, the group is taking the opportunity to remind everyone that not all movies need to star Demi Moore. “An Evening With Rosebud” will include such winning shorts from the ’97 showcase as Tota Pet, a dazzling bit of Toy Story-style animation that delivers wit as well as computer savvy. Also on the bill are Mouthpiece, Spare Change, Thoughts in the Cellar, Pig Sanctuary, Game Face, and more. Entry forms for the 1998 Rosebud Awards Competition will be available for those who don’t want to take the loss of the Key and the Biograph sitting down. The deadline is Jan. 18. Get cracking. At 7 p.m. at Borders, 18th & L Sts. NW. FREE. (202) 797-9081. (Dave Nuttycombe)
