FRIDAY
Juxtaposing archival footage, eyewitness accounts, excerpts from his writings, and staged re-enactments, John Akomfrah’s Seven Songs for Malcolm X builds a cinematic mosaic portrait of the charismatic civil rights leader. The hourlong 1993 tribute, an award-winner at film festivals from San Francisco to Paris, captures the martyred leader’s life, his evolving philosophy, and the context in which they were forged. At noon at the National Archives Theater, 7th & Pennsylvania Ave. NW. FREE. (202) 501-5000. (Mark Jenkins)
