TUESDAY

At the very least, give Steven Spielberg credit for putting the word “Amistad” into play. Whatever the merits of his film, white folks are now a bit more familiar with one aspect of African-American history. Seizing an opportunity to capitalize on the movie—and explicate its Hollywoodisms—and in conjunction with the display of documents from the real Supreme Court case, author Howard Jones will discuss his book, Mutiny on the Amistad: The Saga of a Slave Revolt and Its Impact on American Abolition, Law, and Diplomacy. At noon at the National Archives Theater, 7th & Pennsylvania Ave. NW. FREE. (202) 501-5000. (Dave Nuttycombe)
