For too long the Big Burundi Beat has been silent. Nearly 20 years ago, the insistent rhythm was all the rage, transported from central Africa to London radios and then MTV, thanks to Bow Wow Wow. Perky lead singer Annabella Lwin was a mere 14 when pop Svengali Malcolm McLaren lured her into stardom. With her then-outlandish Mohawk, the Rangoon rocker was an undeniable charmer, especially when chanting the Strangeloves’ 1965 hit, “I Want Candy.” The beat fizzled out by ’83, but if the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac can reunite, we must definitely welcome back Bow Wow Wow. At 9:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $10. (202) 667-7960. (Dave Nuttycombe)
