Somehow, I missed the Time magazine where they declared Jimmie “J.J.” Walker comedian of the decade. According to Walker’s press kit, this was in 1969. But how could this be when Good Times didn’t appear until ’72? That’s when the whole nation was exploding with laughter to the sound of “Dyn-o-mite!” Well, it wouldn’t be the first mistake Time ever made, nor the first puffed-up résumé. Now, I’m not suggesting that Walker needs to fabricate anything about his reputation; after all, he had David Letterman and Jay Leno selling him jokes. Today, Walker has traded his Afro for a sleek Mr. Clean look. See if his powder’s still dry at 8:30 p.m. tonight-Thursday, 8:30 & 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Improv, 1140 Connecticut Ave. NW. $15-17. (202) 296-7008.
