In music, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink postmodernism is becoming the norm. So it’s not enough to simply have varied interests; you need skills, too. Clarinetist Don Byron knows wide-eyed innovation and raw talent make the best bedfellows, so he sleeps with both. Byron plays everything from klezmer to cartoon music, from swing to avant-garde, and he does it all with intense conviction and hard-nosed intelligence. On the latest tour with his band, Existential Dred, Byron adds poet Sadiq Bey to his quartet when they perform at 8 p.m. at the Barns of Wolf Trap, 1624 Trap Rd., Vienna. $16. (703) 938-2404.
