When a mainstream musician produces dissonance, it’s often viewed as a mistake. For avant-gardists who venture into obvious lyricism, critics often claim laziness. But for guitarist Bruce Eisenbeil, lyricism and dissonance aren’t an either/or choice. On his debut CD, Nine Wings, Eisenbeil is as comfortable blasting his way through a throng of drums (“Mercury”) as he is weaving his way around a quiet sax (“Rising Lake”). Eisenbeil’s appeal falls between the crowds who find pleasure in both WPFW’s G-Strings and The Other Side programs. Find out where your allegiances lie when Eisenbeil, alto saxophonist Rob Brown, and drummer Lou Grassi perform at 8 p.m. at Crush, 2323 18th St. NW. $10. (202) 319-1111. (CP)
