TUESDAY
Playwright Drury Pifer waxes esoteric on the state of modern art collecting in his one-woman performance piece, The Screaming Woman Next, brought to life tonight by actress Susan Galbraith. A founding member of Berkeley Stage Company, Pifer wowed the critics in 1992 with his Helen Hayes Award-nominated comedy African Tourist. How lowbrow can his leading lady go, playing a museum docent while talking cutting-edge art and desending into an elegy to her failing marriage? See if the title refers to the actress or the audience at 7:30 p.m. at the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s Hammer Auditorium, 17th & New York Ave. NW. $20. (202) 639-1770. (Ginger Eckert)
