Cheers to Dave McKenna for his much-deserved laceration of the Washington Wizards (Cheap Seats, 4/24).

Webber, Strickland, Howard, and company had it all this year: the new arena, the new nickname, and, for the first time in decades, the talent to finish better than ninth place in the conference. Their usual mediocre record is excusable; their frequent pathological actions are not.

Washington has enough national embarrassments (the mayor, the schools, Ken Starr) as it is. The last thing we needed was the most vile team in professional sports. A pox on the Wizards for their arrogance, and may they be cursed with 15 years of 40-42 seasons.
