Lawrence Weschler finds wonder wherever it’s hiding: in Mr. Wilson’s Cabinet of Wonders, his gemlike exploration of the nature of art, history, nature, awe, and trust, and in his new book, Calamities of Exile. A New Yorker writer and an extremely inquisitive individual, Weschler follows the stories of modern exiles in what he calls three “nonfiction novellas.” The central characters are escaping from regimes in Iraq, Czechoslovakia, and South Africa, but what they find in their new existence between worlds is stunning, surprising, and ultimately touching. Weschler reads from his book at 7 p.m. at Chapters, 1512 K St. NW. Free. (202) 347-5495. (AB)
