Chief Financial Officer Anthony Williams may be smart, qualified, and likable (“Revenge of the Nerd,” 6/5), but it doesn’t amount to a hill of beans if he’s too lazy to put his skills to work. While chatting with him before the Unifest parade last weekend, my friend and I were flabbergasted to hear him admit that he had spent three years on the board of the Washington Convention Center Authority while plans for a new convention center were going through, but he “didn’t pay attention.” Now, he said, the financing plan, which the D.C. Council recently approved based largely on the CFO’s recommendation, is simply too far along to stop it.
So, convention center backers, as well as Williams fans, take note. Our CFO did not pay attention to the city’s largest and most expensive construction project in its history! Pretty amazing…
