WEDNESDAY
There’s a prospective film series or two in the role Jewish filmmakers and performers played in defining Hollywood’s assimilated-American dream, but Celluloid Revival: Great Jewish Stars on the Big Screen is not one of them. This is simply a summer-movie series dedicated to the comedies and musicals made in the ’50s and ’60s and featuring such Jewish performers as Ethel Merman (Ethel Zimmerman), Lauren Bacall (Betty Joe Persky), and Tony Curtis (Bernard Schwartz). Tonight’s feature is the 1954 camp classic There’s No Business Like Show Business. How to Marry a Millionaire and Some Like It Hot follow on June 23 and June 30, respectively. At 8 p.m. at the D.C. Jewish Community Center, 16th & Q Sts. NW. $7.50. (202) 518-9400, X248. (Mark Jenkins)
