Fresh from a stint in Hollywood, where he appeared as a homeless prophet in Bulworth, Amiri Baraka brings his mythical, political poetry to Chocolate City for Word for Word. The first of three showcases to be videotaped for later broadcast, Word will feature amateur poets competing for a cash prize à la Showtime at the Apollo. Aspiring winners can get a word of advice from poet Jessica Care Moore, who won at the Apollo five times. D.C. slam champ Laini Mataka and vocalist Ayanna Gregory will join Moore and Baraka in headlining the show. As for the amateurs, if you don’t like ’em, boo ’em off the stage. At 6:30 p.m. at Howard University’s Cramton Auditorium, 6th & Fairmont Sts. NW. $7. (202) 737-4116. (HB)
