Funnily enough, two or three years ago I thought it was time to pay respects to Sydney Newman, who invented The Avengers and Dr. Who. He died six months ago. I really wanted to do an appreciation of The Avengers, which started nearly 40 years ago! It seemed good to me to get as many different aspects as I could—and I pinched Billy Shatner’s idea from his Star Trek book. Needless to say, I agree with you—I am certainly not a writer (“Mrs. Peel, You’re Needed,” CityBooks, June 19)!

I had no idea a film was coming out. This book was published in the U.K. last year (1997). At that time, I was pursuing the . It was worth it, as the cassettes are coming out July 28, courtesy of A&E and Canal + Image International.
