I beg to differ with Loose Lips (8/14), who said that “Rice-A-Roni” is the only campaign song. On July 18, I led a sing-along of the following tune for Phil Mendelson at his musical fundraiser (sung to “Our Love Is Here to Stay,” George Gershwin):
“It’s very clear that Phil is here
to stay/Not for a year, but at least four years and maybe forever and a day/The radio, and the telephone, and the TV that we know/Extol his many virtues, and in time will show…
That oh my dear, Phil is here to stay!/Together we’re going a long, long way/In time, the Rockies may crumble, Gibraltar may tumble/They’re only made of clay, but…/Our Phil is here to stay!”
