Companion Trio hail from Baltimore and play not-quite-ripe experimental jazz that aspires to the level of improvisation and abstraction found in the work of Anthony Braxton and Ornette Coleman. If illustrative conductor Braxton had to draw a picture of the Trio’s tunes, I imagine it might resemble the crumbling dockside factory I once explored in the Inner Harbor. Their interest in decay and isolation (rather than controlled deconstruction) is represented on their self-titled compact disc for the Mount Pleasant-based Mass Particles label. Particles proprietor Chuck Bettis appears tonight under the guise of The Trance and the Arcade, an electronic unit that makes noises that can be annoying but are often, after a certain strain of skronk, almost playful. With Jackson Moore & Mike Szekely at 9 p.m. at the Velvet Lounge, 915 U St. NW. $3 (202) 462-3213. (John Dugan)
