English singer-songwriter-guitarist Roy Harper has been carving out his own niche in the music scene for more than 30 years. Respected by rock gods such as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin (members of whom have guested on Harper’s recordings), Harper has not attained the fame many believe he deserves but it may still come. As his latest release The Dream Society (Science Friction) proves, Harper’s still got plenty to say and can deliver it passionately, in both acoustic and electric settings. In fact, The Dream Society offers a series of insightful and eloquent observations about love at many ages; and at tonight’s show, you’ll be able to hear those observations clearly, since Harper will be performing solo. At 7:30 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $15. (703) 549-7500. (Ken Roseman)
