Honky Tonk Confidential’s record-release party tonight will be a retro-country happening. In fact, the band’s self-produced CD consists entirely of original material that sounds as if it could have been recorded decades ago by the likes of Bob Wills or Patsy Cline. And its live show includes great covers of songs by the aforementioned masters. But HTC is a ’90s roots-country band, and that shows through in the lighthearted (yet sardonic) lyrics to such original numbers as “(Ain’t a) Texas Gal,” and “Down in Washington.” HTC is blessed with three gifted lead vocalists: the winsome yet sultry Diana Quinn, baritone Mike Woods (who soulfully croons “I Know My Dreams”), and Geff King, who rocks on “Down in Washington.” Quinn, Woods, and King also create sweet three-part vocal harmonies. Opening up tonight’s festivities are Hoboken, N.J., heroes the Ghost Rockets, who describe their sound as “rhythm ‘n’ bluegrass.” The bash begins at 9 p.m. at Cowboy Cafe South, 2421 Columbia Pike, Arlington.
