Forget all the tea in China; what would you trade for the best? Contemplate the question over steaming cups of whites, greens, oolongs, and blacks obtained from family-owned estates in China by David Lee Hoffman, a tea importer with Silk Road Teas, at a tea tasting accompanied by a dinner designed to complement the sampling of the near-dozen different teas. The tasting will include the gold medal winner of this year’s China National Oolong Competition and tea from a single tea tree more than 700 years old. Using his personal cache of teaware, Hoffman will wean us away from our convenient little tea bags with the simple preparation of traditional Chinese styles of loose-leaf brewing.
