Lovitt Records has released Engine Down’s first single, “Hold All Applause/Castalia,” featuring Sleepytime Trio drummer Jonathan Fuller on guitar for the bass-heavy hardcore band, which is coming from Harrisonburg and Richmond, Va., to D.C. this month to record a full-length album at WGNS Studios. It’s no Hoover reunion (for that you’ll have to turn to Hoover’s self-titled posthumous EP, released by Slowdime for “documentation” purposes), but Hoover fans will find Engine Down in much the same vein. Lovitt also has a new CD out by the Rah Bras (a new Richmond band comprising folks from Sleepytime Trio, Men’s Recovery Project, and Damn Near Red), an upcoming Jason Falkner single, a CD of early material by Richmond quartet Four Hundred Years, and a picture-disc tribute album to Ric Flair, featuring the best and goofiest of Northern Virginia spazzcore.
