Jonetta Rose Barras’ description of me as willing to “take a shot” at Chief Management Officer Camille Cates Barnett is imprecise while not inaccurate (“The Dragon Lady Slayeth Herself,” 10/23). Anyone who has followed the oversight by the D.C. Council’s Government Operations Committee knows my willingness to “take shots” as shots are warranted. Barnett’s leadership of the control board-mandated management reform process does, in fact, warrant scrutiny and criticism, and both have occurred within GovOps hearings, as City Paper correctly reported.

At the same time, as I told the reporter, I have a good working relationship with the chief management officer, evidenced by, for example, my brokering a constructive discussion between Barnett and two local labor leaders as the article was going to press. That working relationship will continue as long as we both serve the District of Columbia, an assurance I make knowing we’re both grown-ups who know constructive criticism when we see it.
