It is interesting that Washington City Paper would excoriate WETA for not being a part of the District of Columbia (“Local Zeros,” 10/30).

Perhaps you will remember when WETA tried very hard to locate in the District and to be, thus, a truly local station: The District government shut them out. So WETA relocated in Northern Virginia, purchasing a handsome building in the Shirlington area.

Local shops and restaurants benefit greatly from the fact that WETA staff can stroll in Shirlington Village, spending money with the Virginia merchants that could have been spent in the District of Columbia.

The District of Columbia is very welcome to the MCI Center and the new convention center. We’d rather have WETA.
