The Kennedys may be marketed as a folk duo, but on their ’96 release, Life Is Large, Pete Kennedy’s chiming 12-string Rickenbacker wowed some indie-pop partisans. On their respectable new Philo CD, Angel Fire, the jangle takes a back seat to singer Maura Kennedy’s tasteful, coffeehouse-style emoting of their lyrics, which pay homage to the likes of Henry David Thoreau and T.S. Eliot. These literary road warriors will be playing a number of dates from Oklahoma to California next spring. (SK)
