Da Great Deity Dah’s music is a lot like his personality: abrasive, uneven, and confrontational. He delivers his forceful pro-black rhymes with the urgency of a revolutionary hunted down by secret police. In Magistrates of Truth, the newsletter accompanying his fourth independent release, Declaration of War, Dah describes his Royal Alchemist Productions as “subversive” and himself as the group’s
“hard-hitting, enigmatic leader.” Beneath the Marvel Comics ninja that serves as his only press picture and his violent, cluttered soundscapes, Dah is a man of passion dedicated to “altering negative vibrations” for his Nubian People. Buried in controversial black-man-as-God propaganda, Declaration’s positive but radical messages have no chance of commercial radio airplay. (Neil Drumming)
