This year’s “Fall Season Fundraiser” for the Institute of Musical Traditions is a powerful pop-folk/alternative country double header featuring Last Train Home and Terri Allard. In little over a year, Last Train Home, with its smooth blend of country, American folk, and pop, has become a D.C.-area favorite. Allard, based outside of Charlottesville, Va., has a rootsier sound than most of the female singer-songwriters who’ve appeared in the past several years. Her husky voice has a bluesy edge complimented surprisingly well by the bluegrass-acoustic flavored arrangements on her debut CD Rough Lines. The Institute of Musical Traditions presents a concert series that runs through the fall and winter-spring seasons, and also sponsors the “Class Acts” arts outreach program. At 8 p.m. at Paint Branch Unitarian Universalist Church, 3215 Powder Mill Road, Adelphi. $14. (301) 270-4847. (Ken Roseman)
