FRIDAY

With all the African, European, and indigenous flavors that blend in Brazilian music, it might seem that Brazil-born Washington guitarist Ney Mello would have inherited enough influences for a lifetime. The guitarist also has a keen interest in Indian music, however, and has explored Asian, African, and Middle Eastern percussion. These two strains in his music intermingle tonight, when Mello plays a series of duets with Washington-based tabla player Broto Roy, who’s probably best-known for his work with Calcutta-born D.C. guitarist Sanjay Mishra. At 6 p.m. in the Kennedy Center’s Grand Foyer. Free. (202) 467-4600. (Mark Jenkins)
