Anybody who called the concert line at the Icebox, a go-go club on Adams Place NE, in mid-December heard a bizarre message instead of the usual listing of bands. Over hiphop beats on the recorded greeting, Icebox promoter Ken “Icey-Ice” Moore ranted about a mysterious conspiracy theory: “Niggas tried to burn the ‘Box. This is definitely the year of the haters. Hey haters, you never heard of insurance!”

Moore never returned calls, and Icebox owner Paschal Agwubuzo denied Moore’s arson claims, stating that there was an electrical fire at the club on Dec. 9th. Pearl Harley of Icey-Ice Promotions similarly distanced herself from Moore’s comments. She also said it was an electrical fire, and she asserted that after the self-proclaimed “entertainment complex” gets the A-OK from the fire marshal they hope to reopen on Martin Luther King Day weekend.—Steve Kiviat
