In Province of Fire, Geraldine Connolly pushes bare and simple language into spirited and crisply rendered poems that illuminate her experiences and the landscape of her childhood in astonishing detail. Connolly, an avid poetry advocate and co-editor of Poet Lore, celebrates the release of her new book tonight at a reading with Laura Fargas and Elizabeth Murawski as part of Ellipse Arts Center’s New Year, New Words, New Releases program. The two evenings, which showcase five tireless promoters of local poetry, continue next Friday with The Poet and the Poem producer Grace Cavalieri (celebrating the release of her new Heart on a Leash) and Hungry as We Are editor Ann Darr. New Year, New Words, New Releases begins at 8 p.m. tonight and Friday, Jan. 29, at Ellipse Arts Center, 4350 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington. Free. (703) 228-7710. (Colin Bane)
