“The hippie groove is alive and well,” says Catfish Hodge, who has grooved in many an idiom since the original hippie days. But he’s always stayed fairly close to the blues, and he’s always surrounded himself with top-flight groovers. The big man has a new aggregation to jam with, this time calling itself the Hillbilly Funk All Stars. On the hillbilly side is veteran fiddler Vassar Clements. Adding the sophistifunk rhythms are Little Feat regulars Kenny Gradney and Richie Hayward. Keyboardist T. Lavitz brings his jazz and rock résumé to the mix. The ebullient Hodge will hold it all together through the sheer force of his personality. And, probably, a fair amount of sweat. At 7:30 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $17.50. (703) 549-7500. (Dave Nuttycombe)
