Free Range Pilgrim’s new 7-inch, Navigational—out this week—is so far behind schedule that the band’s members half-jokingly claim to have almost forgotten about it. “We haven’t even played those songs live for months and months,” says guitarist Jon Carson, “because they’re pretty old.” The record was originally scheduled for a September 1998 release from Arlington’s Deep Reverb Records. But a series of snafus at the pressing plant caused ongoing delays, so the band simply hoped for the best and went back to writing songs.

Navigational features the singles “Parisian” and “I Hate This Piece,” the latter a sparse affair that asks: “What if I’m not as honest as I used to be?” Last week, Free Range Pilgrim packed up its newly minted records and hit the road for a brief Northeast tour. (CB)
