Sepultura’s future looked bleak when vocalist and founding member Max Cavalera left the band in December of 1996. But even with new vocalist Derrick Green, the band’s latest CD, Against, retains the amazing musical textures and top-notch production values of 1996’s Roots. Throughout, Andreas Kisser’s how-the-hell-did-he-make-that-noise solos are enough to make any guitar geek drool. On the inventive “Kamaitachi,” drummer Igor Cavalera’s rhythms are melded with the exotic sounds of Japan’s Kod› percussion troupe. Standing out in a largely derivative genre, the biggest band ever to break out of Brazil has forged a solid piece of glittering speed metal. With Biohazard, Spineshank, and One Minute Silence at 7 p.m. at Jaxx, 6355 Rolling Road, Springfield. $20. (703) 569-5940. (Javi Guerra)
