First came Dr. Ruth, the diminutive Jewish mother who told us to do it with less guilt and more chutzpah. Now there’s Dr. Shmuley—Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, that is—a leading sex expert based in England who wants us to do it, as Hebrew National might put it, answering to a higher authority. Oy vey. And I thought there was enough anxiety and schvitzing in it as is. Boteach outlines the way to be a mensch in dating, love, marriage, and intimacy in his new book, titled Kosher Sex. A quick perusal of the table of contents, though, might make even Hugh Hefner a little farklempt. For example, Boteach stamps certain intimate activities with his circle-K for kosher—Ms. Lewinsky, take note—while others he labels strictly traif: pornography, mastering your own domain. Do a mitzvah and hear Boteach speak at 8 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, 6125 Montrose Road, Rockville. Free. (301) 881-0100. (Elissa Silverman)
