The video store where I worked in high school ran the same trailer tapes all day. Since tapes ran an hour, a full shift offered eight chances to watch the same three-minute movie snippets—and pretty much ensured that I’d be eternally able to quote from the likes of Zapped! and Real Genius (Val Kilmer: “Have you ever seen a body like that?” William Atherton: “Why, that’s my daughter!” Kilmer: “Well, then I guess you have”). The worst day of my career, however, was when our trailer loop featured a Gallagher comedy special. America’s favorite Southern comic took his Sledge-O-Matic to an array of fruits and vegetables before smashing his trademark watermelon. I’m not saying it was related, but that was also the day I came home, found the screen door locked, and smashed my hand through it to get in. See how your temper fares when Gallagher performs at 8 p.m. at the Warner Theatre, 513 13th St. NW. $35.75. (202) 783-4000. (Michael Schaffer)
