Thanks to the continuing efforts of Honky Tonk Confidential and its ilk, the D.C. area now boasts a developing alt-roots scene. Each month, HTC presents a “District of Country Barn Dance and Show” featuring both local and out-of-town performers. Tonight’s lineup showcases three radically different approaches to country music. Angry Johnny & the Killbillies will stomp through a set of rough slices of Americana concerning grocery-store robberies, murder, and an “All American Girl” who’s definitely not a wholesome cheerleader type; Brian McGuire and his band, ’52 Pick-Up, will revive traditional kick-ass rockabilly; HTC will offer its usual sampler of Western swing, rockabilly, honky-tonk standards, and catchy originals like “(Ain’t a) Texas Gal” and the great sing-along “Down in Washington.” The neo-hillbilly party begins at 9 p.m. at American Legion Post 176, 6520 Amherst Ave., Springfield. $6.
